Saint Mary's Mud

Ed. note: I believe this came from Tinker Hall, the girl's school Mom went to before college.

2 squares baker's chocolate
3 cups milk
3 cups soft bread
2 slightly beaten eggs
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 t vanilla
1/2 t salt

Scald milk and melt chocolate in it. Blend with beater, add bread. Combine last 4 ingredients and add to chocolate mixture. Bake in greased 1 1/2 quart dish at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Server warm with hard sauce.

Hard Sauce

1/4 cup butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 t vanilla
Crem butter and sugar gradually. Add vanilla. Serve Mud warm.

Serves 6.
