Maa's Sally Lunn (or Lund...seems either is used)

1 cup milk
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 lb. butter
3 eggs
4 cups flour
3/4 t. salt
1 yeast cake (or pack of dry yeast.  Probably not    the "new" rapid rise type)
1/4 cup warm water

Scald milk, add butter.  When lukewarm add eggs and beat.  Dissolve yeast in water.  Add to milk mixture.  Sift flour, sugar and salt.  Add 1/2 to milk mixture and beat with a wooden spoon.  (Why wooden?)  Add rest of flour.  Put into greased bowl, cover, and let rise till double in bulk.  Punch down and let rise again.  Divide into 2 loaves and let rise till double.  Bake at 350 - I don't remember how long.
