AUNT FANNY'S SPOON BREAD
Mom
Note from Mom: I found a tattered booklet entitled "Old Southern Tea Room " (it had a sleeve of Mother's recipe cards in it) and there are several intriguing recipes you might be interested in. This is one.
1 cup cooked grits 1 cup corn meal 1 cup boiling water 1 cup milk |
1/3 cup melted butter 2 eggs 1 tsp each sugar, baking powder, salt |
Mix grits and corn meal, then pour boiling water on. Add milk, then beat egg yolks and whites separately. Add butter to yolks, mix with other ingredients, then add baking powder, salt, and pepper. Fold in beaten egg whites. Set in hot water and cover. Let cook until set in middle. Cook in deep pan or casserole.
